Elderberry Immunity Shots
After learning that elderberry can likely shorten the duration of the common cold and flu, I knew I wanted to stock up on some elderberry immunity shots in my fridge and freezer this winter. These immunity shots are boosted with rich antioxidants from the elderberry tea, wild blueberries, pomegranate juice, and fresh ginger. And unlike other immunity shots…they actually taste good! No need to spend $4 to 5 per shot at the grocery store; these are easy to make in your own kitchen for MUCH less money. Store these in your freezer for when you feel a cold coming on… You will be glad you did!

I’ve been really into the natural remedies lately. Maybe because my patients have been asking me about medicines for their cold symptoms that don’t have a lot of side effects. (BTW — if you didn’t know I also work as a PA-C in Urgent Care!)
Apart from recommending honey for cough, I’ve started to recommend elderberry and zinc to reduce the length of their cold or flu, which is based on multiple studies.
I don’t know about you, but I do NOT want to be sick for longer than I have to this winter. So you can bet I’m going to have a bunch of these in my freezer!

Elderberry Immunity Shot Ingredients
- 3 Elderberry tea bags & hot water — I use Yogi Elderberry tea bags and steep them in very hot water for 7 minutes, per package instructions. Feel free to use any other elderberry tea bags you can find — just make sure to steep it long enough to get the most nutritional benefit.
- Frozen wild blueberries — You can also use regular blueberries, but I love wild blueberries because they have twice the antioxidant power as regular blueberries. You can also use fresh blueberries. I chose frozen for convenience and cost.
- Pomegranate juice — I use POM.
- Fresh ginger — You just need a fresh ~1.5 to 2 inch piece, peeled

How to Make Elderberry Immunity Shots
1. Steep Tea
Combine your elderberry tea bags with hot water and let steep for directed time on package. Usually, you have to steep this type of tea for longer. My tea took 7 minutes to steep.
2.Blend Ingredients
Gather all your ingredients and put them in a high-speed blender. Blend until smooth.
Tip: You can also use a food processor if you don’t have a high speed blender. Even an immersion blender could work fairly well for this.

3. Strain
Use a fine mesh colander to strain out the pulp. Use a spoon to help the liquid strain faster.
4. Pour Juice
Use a small funnel to pour the juice into 2 oz. glass bottles. You should get about 8 shots, but this may vary slightly.
Tip: I love these 2 oz. glass bottles from Amazon because they come with a little funnel!

How to Store Leftover Elderberry Immunity Shots
Store these in the fridge for up to a week or so. You can also freeze them for a couple of months — just make sure to leave a little extra space in the bottle for expansion.
What else can I add to these immunity shots?
