Elderberry Immunity Shots

After learning that elderberry likely can reduce the length of the common cold and flu, I knew I wanted to stock up on some elderberry immunity shots in my fridge and freezer this winter. These immunity shots are boosted with rich antioxidants from the elderberry, wild blueberries, pomegranate juice, and fresh ginger. And unlike other immunity shots...they actually taste good! No need to spend $4-5 per shot at the grocery store; these are easy to make in your own kitchen for MUCH less money. Store these in your freezer for when you feel a cold coming on... you will be glad you did!

Total Time10 minutes
Course: beverage
Servings: 8 2.0 oz shots

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen wild blueberries or regular blueberries, see the note below
  • 3/4 cup pomegranate juice
  • 3 elderberry tea bags
  • 1-2 inch piece of fresh ginger peeled

Instructions

  • Steep Tea: If you haven't already, steep your elderberry tea bags.
  • Blend Ingredients: Gather all your ingredients and put them in a high-speed blender. Blend until smooth.
  • Strain Liquid: Use a fine mesh colander to strain out the pulp. Use a spoon to help the liquid strain faster.
  • Pour Juice: Use a small funnel to pour the juice into 2 oz. glass jars. You should get about 8 shots, but this may vary.
  • Store: Keep your elderberry immunity shots in the fridge for up to a week or so.

Notes

Why wild blueberries?
Wild blueberries have twice the antioxidant power as regular blueberries. They are easiest to find frozen. You do not need to use wild blueberries for this recipe. Regular blueberries work fine - fresh or frozen.
