Creamy Buffalo Chickpea Dip (Vegan)
This creamy buffalo chickpea dip will be your new favorite snack! It’s a high protein dip with a tangy kick from the buffalo sauce. This is one of the easiest dips you can make and takes only 5 minutes to make!
What you’ll love about this recipe:
This is the perfect dip for a snack or app! It has an amazing creamy texture with a little spice and touch of cheesiness from the nutritional yeast. I love to make this vegan buffalo dip for game days (usually a double batch) and serve it with some of my favorite dippers like pretzel crisps.
If you love buffalo you need to try these amazing Buffalo Tofu Bites made in the air fryer or this Crispy Buffalo Tofu Wrap.
Ingredients:
- Chickpeas: One can of chickpeas is all you need. Make sure to drain and rinse them. If you have some extra chickpeas, try out my Sesame Ginger Chickpeas that are a super flavorful weeknight dinner!
- Buffalo sauce: Use any kind of hot sauce you like! You can choose based on spice level. I don’t like it too spicy so I choose mild. My favorite buffalo sauce is Frank’s Red Hot. FYI some are not vegan so make sure to check the ingredients.
- Non-dairy yogurt: Use an unsweetened non-dairy yogurt such as almond or soy. You can also use a plain greek yogurt (non-dairy). This will add some creaminess to the dip.
- Nutritional yeast: This adds some cheesiness and more flavor to the dip! (Also it’s high in protein!)
- Spices: A little garlic and onion powder with some salt will add a lot of flavor to this dip
Optional Toppings:
- Green onion and/or fresh parsley
- More buffalo sauce
- Vegan cheese shreds (like cheddar)
Serve your dip with:
- Carrot sticks
- Celery sticks
- Pita bread or pita chips
- Tortilla chips
- Pretzels
Substitutions & Variations
- Instead of chickpeas you could use other white beans such as Great Northern Beans or Cannellini Beans
- You can omit the nutritional yeast if you don’t have it. It adds more cheesy flavor but is not necessary
- Don’t have yogurt? Use cream cheese.
Equipment
Instructions
This buffalo chickpea dip is one of the easiest snacks to make.
Simply add all your ingredients to a food processor and blend until you have a creamy dip. Taste and adjust seasoning as desired.
You can chill the dip for 1-2 hours (just cover with some plastic wrap), but I think it tastes great at room temperature! Optional toppings: diced green onion, buffalo sauce, vegan cheddar shreds
Storage
This dip will be good for up to 1 week if stored in an airtight container. I do not recommend freezing this dip.
FAQ
You can, but it is harder to mix in a blender due to the long shape of the blender. You may need to add 1-2 tbsp of water to help get the smooth texture.
You can serve this dip with lots of delicious dipping sides such as veggies (carrot sticks, celery sticks, red pepper slices), crackers, pita chips, or pita bread!
This dip can also be a great spread on sandwiches or wraps! It would be amazing on a veggie wrap with crunchy red peppers, spinach, and red cabbage.
When to Enjoy this Dip:
- As a game day spread (like during football season)
- Afternoon healthy snack with some veggies or pita bread
- On a veggie wrap for lunch
- As an appetizer for your next party
Pro Tips
- This dip can be enjoyed hot, cold, or room temperature. If you want it hot, just bake the blended dip in the oven at 350F in a baking dish for 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can chill the dip for a few hours.
- Buffalo sauce comes in lots of spice levels. I personally prefer a mild buffalo sauce but choose one that you like!

Love this dip!
I did need to add some water, but oh so good!
This was awesome! It will replace the high fat Buffalo Chicken Dip that I have traditionally made for Bills games. 🏈
Thanks Heather!! Yes its a great easy substitute for the chicken version…and so easy to make!
