Frozen Matcha Latte

All I've been craving lately is matcha...and this frozen matcha latte sure hits the spot as the days are getting sunnier and warmer! Unlike most frozen matcha latte recipes that rely on just milk, ice, and sweetener, this version blends in frozen banana and spinach for a naturally creamy texture and a boost of nutrients—while still keeping that classic matcha latte flavor. It has about 13g of plant-based protein, making it a bit more satisfying than your typical iced drink. And while it may look similar to a smoothie, it’s lighter, more drinkable, and designed to taste like a true matcha latte—just thicker, colder, and extra refreshing!

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 cup soy milk sweetened or unsweetened, based on preference
  • 1 cup fresh spinach leaves or ~1/4 cup frozen
  • 1 medium frozen banana (in chunks)
  • 1/2-1 cup ice add one cup for a more frozen drink
  • 1 pitted medjool date or 1-2 tsp of maple syrup
  • 2 tsp matcha powder
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract optional

Instructions

  • Add the soy milk, spinach, frozen banana, ice, Medjool date (or maple syrup), ice, matcha powder, and vanilla extract (if using) to a high-speed blender.
  • Blend until completely smooth and creamy. The texture should be less thick than a smoothie,
  • Taste and adjust as needed. Add more sweetener for a sweeter drink or a splash of milk to thin it out.
  • Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

Use a high quality matcha powder for the best flavor.  I love Naoki Ceremonial Grade Matcha Powder.
This drink is not naturally super sweet- but if you want it sweeter add an extra date, a touch more maple syrup, or sweetened plant milk.
My favorite blender is from Beast - it's smaller, very strong, and comes with lots of different sized cups (and travel tops/straws). I use it over my Vitamix now! You can get 15% off your purchase through this link.  (I am an affiliate with Beast).
